These tips are intended to help you spot door-to-door sales scams this season. Typically, false claims and high pressure tactics are used to lure you away from or cancel your ADT security.

 

Your Personal Safety

• Ask to see official ADT company identification.
  The only companies that are affiliated with ADT are ADT Authorized Dealers. If they do not show official ID proving it, don’t believe it. Be wary of letting the stranger in. Before you let them into your home, call ADT to confirm their affiliation with ADT.

• Listen for common “Deceptive Door Knocker” phrases used to gain access into your home.
  “We are here from ADT to check your alarm system” or “We are here to upgrade your ADT system.” ADT Security representatives would call first if an upgrade or service repair appointment was needed.

• Tell others about the scam.
  Don’t let friends, families, or neighbors get scammed. Call local law enforcement. Report scam activity by calling ADT’s Deceptive Sales Response Team at 888.238.6131.

Identity & Financial Information Theft

• Be Smart. Don‘t give out your ADT or Personal Account Information.
  Deceptive sales reps often target homes displaying ADT yard sign-displaying customers because you consider security a priority. Be aware of questions about your personal information. Do not jeopardize your financial, medical or personal identity.

• Check the Paperwork Carefully.
  It is usually after signing on the dotted line that people notice the paperwork is from a different alarm security company and not ADT or an ADT Authorized Dealer. Call law enforcement or the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to report the fraudulent company immediately.

Fraud & Sales Scams

• Scammers often pose as ADT employees offering you a free security system upgrade.
  Don’t be fooled by an unsolicited Door Knocker offering you a free ADT security system upgrade. ADT would call first to set up an appointment.

• Don’t allow yourself to be duped into signing unclear documents.
  Fraudulent door-to-door sales reps may claim to be from ADT or an ADT Authorized Dealer, but the paperwork may say otherwise. Be cautious. Do not sign any documents without careful review first.
• Don’t be fooled by false claims.
  Deceptive Door Knockers often claim that the ADT security system is not being monitored, does not have certain services or that ADT has changed its business name or has gone out of business.

The ADT security systems is not being monitored.	ADT offers continuous 24/7 monitoring. You can test your security monitoring from MyADT.com or by calling ADT.
ADT home security systems can’t help protect you without being connected to a landline.	Not true! You can stay connected to ADT through your home phone line, the cellular network or both. If you wish to change how your system communicates with ADT or add additional protection, please call 1-800- ADT ASAP
ADT has been taken over by another company, has changed its name or is going out of business.	Not only is ADT still in business, it has been for 140 years. ADT is North America’s leading provider of home security.
ADT has a new preferred alarm monitoring company.	ADT does not outsource its monitoring operations as some alarm companies do.

• Immediately call the local police before these scammers expand in your community or move to nearby areas.
